African Violet Leaf Development

Freshly isolated African violet leaf piece (0.5 - 1 inch wide).   You can use larger pieces and you can use whole plants.  You can culture on agar, Gelrite, Gelcarin, cotton balls, etc.

Swelling and shoot development on the surface and around edges of leaf piece.

Shoots elongate on leaf piece.

Sometimes the whole leaf piece will be covered with new shoots.

The original leaf piece was cut into smaller pieces after 5-6 weeks and cultured on hormone free medium. This allowed the shoots to elongate and form roots.
